Appliances are a necessity when you buy a new home. If your home isn’t newly built, appliances may come with your home. Unfortunately, the previous owners may have not maintained the appliances right. It’s important to make sure your appliances are properly maintained, whether they are new or used. Take good care of your refrigerator, dishwasher, washer and dryer and other appliances.

It’s important to read through the owner’s manuals if you have them. They include helpful information that will assist you in properly maintaining your appliances in working order. Many repairs are needed due to inappropriately using the machine. Over stuffing the washing machine and dishwasher are common ways of misusing your appliances. Make sure you are aware of the correct way to use your instruments.

The owner’s manual also informs you on how to clean your machine and how often it is needed. Whatever cleaning solutions are suggested, make sure you use them. Try to follow the instructions as carefully as possible because neglecting to clean them may cause harm that requires appliance repair. Lemon juice and white vinegar are natural solutions that are great to use for cleaning. Confirm that these are safe to use before utilizing them.

Maintain the cleanliness of your oven and other appliances by wiping them down with a paper towel or sponge after each use. It’s safe to allow the appliance to cool down before cleaning them. If your stove is flat top, you can wipe the burner’s surfaces after every use. If you have a coil top or burner stove, it’s important to clean the trays under the burners at least once a week. Allowing food to accumulate in the burner tray can cause cooking hazards such as grease fires.

Another good tip is to thaw your cooling appliances every 3 months. This helps to remove the build up of ice. During this time you can vacuum the coils located in the back of the freezer and refrigerator. Keeping the coils vacuumed eliminates the build up of dirt and dust which can cause the appliance to run inefficiently.

By yearly inspection of your appliances you can cut down on appliance repair costs. Examine your washer, dryer, stove, dishwasher and other machines to ensure they are performing at their peak. Fixing a kink in the hose or replacing a dirty filter can prevent costly appliance repair.
